No. 5 Nationally Ranked Baseball Squad Takes Two From Merrimack

NO. ANDOVER, Mass. –The No. 5 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeated Merrimack College today 7-5 and 11-7. In game one, Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) started for the owls and went four innings, giving up three runs on three hits. Steve Simon, (Middlefield, Conn.) came in for Yerina in the fifth and was awarded the win going four innings and gave up two runs on four hits and struck out five. Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.) picked up the save going the final inning and did not allow a run or hit. The Owls are now 18-0 overall and 3-0 in Northeast-10 play.

The offense for the owls was powered by Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.), #A.J. Rouleau# (Westborough, Mass.), and Bryan Dorsey (Chesire, Conn.). All three players recorded two hits apiece and tallied three RBI. Both Dorsey and DeProspo each collected doubles in the game. Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.), and Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) each recorded an RBI.

In game two Kevin Pettine (Someset, Mass.) started for the owls going six innings and gave up six runs on nine hits while striking out six. #A.J. Turnier# (Waterford, Conn.) finished out the game recording the win, going three innings and giving up one run on three hits.

The offense was led by shortstop Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.) who went 3-for-5 and scored twice. Third basemen A.J. Rouleau chipped in two hits and an RBI while Michael Cleary tallied two runs scored.

The Owls improved to 18-0, and 3-0 in Northeast-10 play. They will return home tomorrow to play AIC at 1 p.m.
