SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The No. 5 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeated American International College today, 14-11. Junior first baseman
Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) led the way, going 4-for-4 with five RBI in the win. The Owls remain the only undefeated college baseball team in the nation and are now 21-0 overall and 6-0 in Northeast-10 play.
After the Owls put up three runs in the first inning, they let the Yellowjackets back into the game giving up five runs on three hits, an error and a passed ball.
Kevin Pettine (Somerset, Mass.) started for the Owls going three innings and giving up seven runs on six hits and fanned four batters. #A.J. Turnier# (Waterford, Conn.) relieved Pettine in the bottom of the fourth and went two and one third of an inning and allowed two runs and four hits while striking out one batter. Turnier ended up picking up the win. Designated hitter #T.K. Kiernan# (Wallingford, Conn.) came in for Turnier in the top of the seventh and went two and one third innings before being replace by
Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.). Johnston went the final one and one third of an inning giving up no runs and no hits. Johnston was awarded the save.
The offense got out to a quick start in the first putting up three runs on a two-run double by
Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) and Geffert later scord that inning on an error by the right fielder. After giving up five runs in the bottom of the first, the Owls came back to put up seven runs in the third inning. Geffert led the charge going 4–for-4 with five RBI.
Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.) helped the charge going 2-for-4 and
Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) chipped in three RBI.
The Owls will return home tomorrow to face Post Unversity at 3:30 p.m.
