No. 19 Nationally Ranked Baseball Team Stays Undefeated With Sweep

FLEMINGTON, N.J. – After a week hiatus, the No. 19 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team showed no rust defeating Nyack College 22-1 and then defeating Merrimack College 9-4 later that day. Steve Simon (Middlefield, Conn.) started for the Owls against Nyack going seven innings and giving up one run on seven hits and striking out eight with no walks allowed. Will Meade (Orange, Conn.) threw a scoreless two innings to finish up the game and only gave up three hits. First baseman Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) led the offense going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run and seven RBI.

Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.) went 3-for-6 at the plate with two RBI and a home run. Third basemen #A.J. Rouleau# (Westborough, Mass.) chipped in four RBIs on two hits.

The Owls scored 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back. They added a single run in the second, two more in the third and then seven in the fourth to build a 20-1 lead. Single runs in the fifth and eighth made it a 22-1 final

#T.K. Kiernan# (Wallingford, Conn.) and Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.) both had two hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) had two hits and scored four runs.

In the game against Merrimack, Cummings and Rosadino both collected two hits in the win. Geffert and #T.J. Shea# (Hamden, Conn.) provided some offense as well, both going 1-for-3 and driving in five runs total. Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) earned the win going six innnings and giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out four. Senior reliever Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.) earned the save, going three innings, giving up one run on one hit.

The Owls will play Merrimack College tomorrow for a doubleheader,which is scheduled to start at noon in Flemington, N.J.
