NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 5 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University Owls defeats Stonehill in game one of a double-header 4-2 but drops game two 5-4 in extra innings. In game one, the Southern was tied with Stonehill 1-1 until the top of the sixth when the Owls tallied three runs by way of a home run by
Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.) and two RBI singles from #A.J. Rouleau# (Westborough, Mass.) and
Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.). In game two, both teams were tied 2-2 leading into extra innings and the Owls were able to put up one run in the 11th inning by an RBI single from
Greg Pacelli (Hamden, Conn.). Unfortunately, the Owls gave up two runs in the bottom of the inning and dropped the second game.
In game one,
Kevin Pettine (Somerset, Mass.) started for the Owls and received the win going all nine innings, giving up two runs on six hits and struck out seven batters. Offensively,
Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) led the team going 2-for-4 with one run scored. Cummings.
Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.), Rouleau, and Cleary all collected one hit and an RBI in the game.
Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) started game two and went nine innings and gave up two runs, on seven hits and fanned 10 batters. #A.J. Turnier# (Waterford, Conn.) relieved Zbin in the tenth and went the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on two hits and struck out two batters. The offense was powered by Cummings and Rosadino who both went 2-for-5 in the game and combined for one RBI and one run scored. Rouleau, Cleary, Pacelli, and #T.K. Kiernan# (Wallingford, Conn.) combined for four hits, one RBI and one run scored.
The Owls move to 28-3 on the season and 13-3 in Northeast-10 action. Stonehill moves to 25-9, 10-4 in Northeast-10.
Southern will return home tomorrow to play Adelphi at 1 p.m.
