No. 6 Baseball Team Ties with Adelphi 2-2

NEW HAVEN Conn. – The game between the No. 6 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team and Adelphi ends in a tie 2-2 because of darkness. The Panthers got out to an early jump in the third with a two-run home run to right. The Owls were able to get one run back in the fourth with a two-out error by the third basemen. Southern was able to tie the game in the ninth with an RBI single by Sam Greenberg (Guilford, Conn.). The umpires called the came after the 12th inning.

Steve Simon (Middlefield, Conn.) started for the Owls giving up two runs, on nine hits and fanning seven batters through four innings of work. Kevin Pettine (Somerset, Mass.) relieved Simon in the fourth and only allowed one hit over three innings pitched. Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) came in the top of the eighth and went an inning and 2/3 of scoreless work. Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.) came in to get the final out of the ninth and went the last three innings of the game. Offensively, Greenberg, Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.) and Michael Cleary led the offense, each collecting two hits.

The Owls next game will be April 23 when they travel to Manchester, N.H. to face St. Anselm for a double-header at noon.
