MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 6 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeated St. Anselm today, 3-0 and 6-3. In game one Kevin Pettine (Somerset, Mass.) went a complete game giving up no runs on seven hits and struck out four batters. In game two, Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) went seven innings to pick up the win, giving up one run on seven hits and fanning seven batters faced. #A.J. Turnier# (Waterford, Conn.) relieved Zbin in the eighth and went 2/3 of an inning and gave up two runs on two hits. Closer Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.) came in relief and shut the door on St. Anse;m, giving up no hits and striking out two in getting the final four outs.
In game one, the offense was powered by freshman #T.J. Shea# (Hamden, Conn.), who went 3-for-4 with two RBI out of the ninth spot in the order. In front of Shea, Michael Cleary (West Boyleston, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Sam Greenberg (Guilford, Conn.) and #T.K. Kiernan# (Wallingford, Conn.) were the only other two players to record hits in the game. In game two, eight out of the nine starters recorded a hit in the game. #A.J. Rouleau# (Westborough, Mass.), Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.), Kiernan and Cleary each recorded two hits in the game. DeProspo and Cleary each led the team with two RBI apiece.
The Owls improve to 30-4-1 on the season and 15-4-1 in Northeast-10 conference action. Their next game will be Thursday when they host Caldwell College at 3:30 p.m.
