No. 5 Nationally Ranked Baseball Defeats Assumption 12-2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 5 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University Owls put up 12 runs on 13 hits to defeat Assumption College today, 12-2. Steve Simon (Middlefield, Conn.) went the entire game for the Owls, giving up two runs, on seven hits and fanned seven batters. The offense got out to a fast start in the first inning with an RBI triple from Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) and a two-run home run from Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.). The Owls went on to put up six more runs in the next three innings and put the game out of reach in the eighth with three more runs.

Offensively, the Owls had six out of nine starters with at least one hit and four of the six players had multiple hits in the game. Leadoff man Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.) swung a hot bat going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Rosadino and Geffert combined for five hits, three runs scored and seven RBI in the game. Second basemen #T.K. Kiernan# (Wallingford, Conn.) chipped in going 3-for-4 with two RBI and run scored.

Southern improves to 24-1, 9-1 in Northeast-10 play while Assumption drops to 6-16, 3-5 in Northeast-10.

The Owls next game will be Saturday, April 9 when they host Bentley College for a double-header at noon.
