OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The No. 8 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University Owls is defeated today, by Franklin Pierce, 7-6 and eliminated from the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Owls were down two after the top of the first, but were able to put three runs across the board in the bottom with a bases clearing double by
Bryan Dorsey (Hamden, Conn.). Southern took a 4-2 lead afer the second with an RBI flyout by
Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.) but allowed four runs to come across in the top of the third to make it 6-4, Franklin Pierce. The Owls battled back in the fourth to put two runs on the board with a double by
Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) and a single by
T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.). Shea eventually scored on a RBI groundout by
Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.). Franlin Pierce was able to put a run across the board in the sixth and go on to win 7-6.
Steve Landell (Higganum, Conn.) started for the Owls going six innings, giving up six runs, three earned, on eight hits.
Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) took the loss, giving up one run, on two hits through two innings of work.
Steve Simon (Middlefield, Conn.) pitched the final inning of the game and allowed no hits.
The offense for the Owls was carried by center fielder Cleary, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Designated hitter Shea backed up Cleary, going 2-for-4 with one run scored.
Bryan Dorsey also played a big role in the game going 1-for-4 with three RBI. Cummings and DeProspo also contributed combining for two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored on the day.
