No. 8 Nationally Ranked Baseball Suffers Loss to Adelphi, 6-2

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The No. 8 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team was defeated today, 6-2 by Adelphi in its second game of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Owls will now face Franklin Pierce in an elimination game.

The Owls jumped out in front in the third with a leadoff double by T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) who later scored on a T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) groundout. Southern let Adelphi back into the game with runs allowed in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The Owls put on a late rally in the ninth with an RBI single by Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) but Adelphi was able to hold on for the win.

Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) started for the Owls giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out five batters through five and one-thirds innings of work. A.J. Turnier (Waterford, Conn.) relieved Zbin in the top of the sixth with one out and went two and two-thirds innings, giving up an additional three runs on three hits allowed. Sean Leahy (Maybrook, N.Y) pitched the final inning and gave up two hits.

Offensively, the Owls only collected five hits on the day and no player had more than one hit. Rosadino, Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.), Kiernan, Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) and Shea were the five players to record a hit. Rosadino and Shea were the only two to record a RBI on the day.
