PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 8 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University Owls defeated Pace University today, 5-2 behind a three RBI effort from
Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.). With the Owls down one in the top of the fourth and two aboard, Dorsey cleared the bases with a three-run home run. The Owls were able to tack on two more insurance runs in the ninth with an RBI single from
Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.), who later came around to score on a wild pitch.
Steve Landell (Higganum, Conn.) pitched for the Owls giving up three runs on three hits and striking out three batters through seven innings of work.
Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) came in to hold the game in the eighth, throwing a scoreless inning.
Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.) finished the game off in the ninth, getting three straight outs to record his program-record setting 10th save on the season.
Offensively, seven out of the nine starters each had a hit on the day. Dorsey, Cummings,
Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.),
Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.),
Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.),
T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) and
Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) all had hits on the day. Dorsey and Cummings were the only two players to drive in runs for the Owls.
The Owls move to 34-4-1 on the season and 18-4-1 in Northeast-10 action. Southern will host Pace on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
