Football Routs Pace, 61-0, For Third Straight Win

The Owls recorded a 61-0 win over Pace on Friday night.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Thanks to a dominating effort in all facets, the Southern Connecticut State University football team blanked Pace, 61-0, for its third consecutive victory. The final margin of victory was the largest in any shutout in school history.

Southern Connecticut improved to 3-1, 2-0 in Northeast-10 play with the win. Pace is now 1-3, 0-2.

Running backs Rashaad Slowley (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and Vaughn Magee (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) both broke the 100-yard mark in the win. Slowley finished with 13 rushes for 113 yards and three total touchdowns, while Magee had six rushes for 110 yards and two scores. Kevin Lynch (Medfield, Mass.) completed 13-of-15 passes for 213 yards and four touchdowns. Andre Privott (Middletown, Conn.) hauled in eight catches for 136 yards and a touchdown, while Willie Epps (Norwalk, Conn.) added four catches for 79 yards and two scores.

The SCSU defense added two more interceptions to bring its season total to 11, matching last year's total in just four contests this year. The Owls held Pace to just 178 yards of total offense.

Southern Connecticut opened the scoring on its first possession on a three-play, 67 yard drive that concluded with a 53-yard pass from Lynch to Epps. Christopher Hazelton (Bristol, Conn.) added the PAT to make it 7-0.

After an interception by Zachary Williams (Wolcott, Conn.) gave the Owls the ball at the Pace 11, Slowley scored on an 11-yard run to extend the lead to 14-0 after the PAT.

Later in the first quarter, Slowley scored again from three yards out to cap a 10-play, 80-yard drive. Lynch then hit Slowley on a five yard touchdown pass that made it 27-0 after the first quarter.

The only scoring of the second quarter came courtesy of a 1-yard touchdown pass from Lynch to Epps to make it 34-0 at the break.

Lynch found Privott on a 49-yard catch and run in the opening minutes of the third quarter to extend the cushion to 41-0. Hazelton added a career-long 44-yard field goal later in the frame to make it 44-0. Magee's first of two scores, a seven-yard run, made it 51-0 after three quarters.

Hazelton added a 33-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter before Magee broke free for a 63-yard touchdown scamper to close the scoring.

Davel Campbell (Bridgeport, Conn.) had a team-high eight tackles in the contest. Six different players recorded a sack as well defensively.

The Owls return to action on Oct. 1 for a road game at Assumption.
