NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University football team dropped a 44-0 decision to Assumption College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at Jess Dow Field on Friday night.
The Owls dropped to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in NE-10 play. Assumption improved to 2-5 and 2-4 in league action.
Assumption took control of the game early with two touchdowns in 19 seconds just past the midway point of the first quarter. Quarterback Bobby Jordan punched in a six yard touchdown and a made PAT made it 7-0. The Owls then fumbled on the first play after receiving the ensuing kickoff, and Jordan punched it in from one yard out to make it 14-0.
Another SCSU fumble set up the third Assumption touchdown to make it 21-0 after the first quarter. A sack and forced fumble that was recovered in the Owls' end zone provided the fourth and final Greyhounds touchdown of the half.
Assumption would add 16 more points in the second half to make it a 44-0 final.
Dequane June (Bronx, N.Y.) finished with 81 yards on 18 carries for the Owls.
Zachary Williams (Wolcott, Conn.) had nine tackles, while
Mike Dunkley (Yonkers, N.Y.) had seven tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery.
The Owls are back in action on Oct. 27 for a road game at No. 3 nationally ranked New Haven.
