ANOTHER KEY STRETCH UP FOR THE OWLS
The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts its final home game of the season against Le Moyne (11-12, 7-12 Northeast-10). The Owls will then travel to New Haven (11-12, 9-10 Northeast-10) on Saturday. SCSU enters the week with an overall record of 11-12 and is 9-10 in NE-10 play.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Freshman guard Tylon Smith set a new career-high en route to a 72-60 win over AIC on Saturday. Smith netted a career-high 24 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists.

SMITH WINS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS
Freshman Tylon Smith was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week twice this season, most recently last week. Smith is averaging 16.5 points in his last four games and 5.3 rebounds on the season.

SMITH COLLECTS ECAC HONORS AS WELL
Freshman Tylon Smith was also named ECAC Player of the Week for his efforts against Assumption and Saint Rose last week.

ALL-TIME VS. LE MOYNE
SCSU brings an all-time record of 9-18 into Tuesday's game against Le Moyne. The Owls recorded a win against Le Moyne earlier this season.

ALL-TIME VS. NEW HAVEN
The Owls are 32-40 all-time against New Haven going into Saturday's game. They lost to New Haven ealier this season

DOWN THE STRETCH
With three games remaining the Owls are in a two-way tie for ninth place in the Northeast-10 standings. The top 10 teams will make the tournament.

POINTS IN THE PAINT
The Owls outscored AIC in the paint, 24-20, on Saturday.

A TOUGH ONE AGAINST SNHU
The Owls scored 12 straight points to tie the score with SNHU in the closing minute, but dropped a 69-67 decision to the Penmen. Trevon Hamlet led three players in double figures with 13 points.

LANGSTON SEALS THE DEAL
Down late in the second half, Greg Langston netted 11 straight points en route to the win over St. Anselm.

SMITH KEY IN VICTORY OVER ST. ANSELM
Freshman Tylon Smith grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds   in a win over St. Anselm.

KEY ROAD WIN
The Owls jumped back in the win column on Jan. 14 with a 60-57 victory at Merrimack. Trevon Hamlet hit two free throws with 90 seconds left to put the Owls ahead for good before Luke Houston knocked down a pair to secure the win.

ONE FOR THE AGES
The Owls played just their third four-overtime game in program history in the game against St. Michael's on Jan. 11. SCSU also went to four extra frames against Pace in 1996 and Coppin State in 1984. Ironically, the Owls have yet to win one of those four overtime contests.

IRONMEN
Three Owls played at least 50 minutes in the four overtime game against St. Michael's. Tylon Smith led all players with 58 minutes, while Trevon Hamlet played 54 and Dominique Langston, 50.

ANOTHER WEEK, ANOTHER HONOR
Trevon Hamlet was tabbed for the Northeast-10 weekly honor roll for the fifth time this season after averaging 25.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in the Owls' contest against St. Michael's and Merrimack.

DEFENSE TELLS THE STORY AGAIN
Last year, the Owls merited just 67.4 points per game in their 12 wins, but allowed 75.9 points per game in their 15 losses. This year, the Owls are meriting just 66.8 points in their 11 wins, but 82.2 points in their 12 losses.

DISHING THE ROCK
Freshman guard Kyle Callanan dished out a career-high six assists against UMass-Lowell on Jan. 11. Classmate Tylon Smith handed out a career-best seven helpers in the win over Merrimack.

DOUBLING DOWN
Sophomore Dominque Langston netted 23 points with 13 rebounds against UMass-Lowell and followed that up with 21 points and 13 rebounds against St. Michael's. He now has three career double-doubles.

OWLS RANK NEAR THE TOP
Greg Langston is ranked second in the Northeast-10 in scoring, as he is averaging 17.1 points per contest. Teammate Trevon Hamlet is third with an average of 16.9 points per game.

SHOWING BALANCE
Six different Owls had nine or more points in the game against UMass-Lowell.

LANGSTON SETS TEAM HIGHS
Sophomore forward Dominique Langston set team highs in scoring and rebounding against Franklin Pierce with 23 points and seven rebounds.

BELOTE FARES WELL WITH INCREASED MINUTES
Freshman guard Ryan Belote played a season-high 21 minutes against Bridgeport and responded with new career-highs of seven points and five rebounds.

DOMINIQUE DOMINATES AGAINST CONCORDIA
Sophomore Dominique Langston had one of his best games as a collegian against Concordia. He finished with a career-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds and a team-high five assists.

SMITH HEATED UP
Freshman guard Tylon Smith averaged 10.7 points per game over the three outings in the month of December, including a career-high 15 points with a career-high eight boards in the win over Concordia.

AND AS A RESULT...
Langston and Smith were tabbed as the Northeast-10 Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for their play in the win over Concordia.

BALANCED SCORING TRANSLATING INTO WINS
In five of its 11 wins this season, Southern Connecticut has had at least four players reach double digits in scoring. The Owls had a quintet hit the double digit mark in wins over Post, Adelphi and Concordia.

HAMLET IN THE NCAA RANKINGS
Trevon Hamlet sits at No. 18 in the NCAA in blocks per game with an average of 2.3 per outing as of the last NCAA stats.

RAMSEY DOUBLES HIS PLEASURE
Senior Kieran Ramsey had his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Concordia. It was his 12th career double-double.

BLOCK PARTY CONTINUES
After being amongst the leaders in blocks within the Northeast-10 Conference last season, Trevon Hamlet has picked up right where he left off by swatting away 55 shots through the Owls' first 23 games. Hamlet is first in the NE-10 in total blocks and in blocks per game (2.4).

ON THE WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Trevon Hamlet has been tabbed for the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll six times this year, with Greg Langston earning the honor twice thus far.

NEWCOMERS IMPROVING NUCLEUS
Freshmen Kyle Callanan and Luke Houston have continued to make an impact for the Owls. Entrenched in a key role, Callanan is averaging 4.7 points per game and is third on the team with 53 assists. Houston averages 7.6 points per contest. Meanwhile, transfer Dominique Langston is third on the team in scoring with 11.4 points per game and leads the Owls in rebounding with 6.0 boards per contest. He is 19th in the Northeast-10 in rebounds/game. Tylon Smith has also fared well for the Owls, with 9.2 points and 5.3 rebounds to go along with 69 assists, which is tops on the team.

HARRIS NAMED TEAM CAPTAIN
Senior guard Chris Harris has been selected as team captain for the Owls in 2011-12.

IN SEASON OPENERS
With the victory over Post, the Owls are now 26-36 all-time in season openers.

IN THE NE-10 PRESEASON POLL
The Owls were selected eighth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll. They finished tied for 10th in the regular season standings last season.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome eight newcomers to the squad for the 2011-12 season - Ryan Belote, Kyle Callanan, Kevin Clark, Jose Cruz, Luke Houston, Dominique Langston, Tylon Smith and Rashamell Vereen.

VETERAN PRESENCE
Southern Connecticut returns six players from last year's squad - seniors Chris Harris and Kieran Ramsey, junior Trevon Hamlet and sophomores Joe Groski, Lenzie Harrison and Greg Langston.

HAMLET RECEIVES PRESEASON HONORS
Junior forward Trevon Hamlet has earned preseason All-American honors by The Sporting News. Last season as a sophomore, Hamlet collected All-ECAC and All-Northeast-10 Conference honors after averaging 17.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 blocks per game.

OWLS FINISH WITH FINE CAMPAIGN
The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team took a key step forward during the 2010-11 season. The Owls closed the year with 12 wins and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.

REACHING THE POST-SEASON
The berth in the NE-10 Tournament was the third for the Owls since joining the league, but the first in nine years. The Owls qualified in 2000-01 and 2001-02, but lost in the first round on both occasions.

THAT'S QUITE A TURNAROUND
The Owls posted the third-highest win turnaround in all of Division II last season. Only Georgia Southwestern and Adams State (Colo.) posted better win improvements than the Owls, who finished the year 10 wins better than the year prior.

HAMLET EARNS POST-SEASON RECOGNITION
Forward Trevon Hamlet earned All-ECAC and All-Northeast-10 Conference honors after a fine sophomore season in which he averaged 17.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 blocks per contest for the Owls.

OWLS RANK AMONG THE NCAA LEADERS
The Owls closed the year ranked No. 8 in all of Division II in field goal percentage defense (.388) and No. 15 in blocked shots/game (4.6). Trevon Hamlet closed the year ranked No. 19 with 2.3 blocks per game.

A GRAND ACCOMPLISHMENT
Thanks to a season-high 30 point effort at Assumption on Feb. 23 2010, Trevon Hamlet went over the 1,000 point mark for his collegiate career. Hamlet tallied 540 points as a freshman at Post University and tallied 475 points as an Owl in 2010-11.

IT'S SIMPLE...SHOOT BETTER AND WIN
The Owls finished the 2010-11 season with a 9-1 mark when shooting better than their opponents and 3-14 when shooting worse than the opposition.

OWLS IN THE REGIONAL RANKINGS
Southern Connecticut was present in the NCAA Regional rankings for most of the latter half of the season, peaking as high as No. 7 in the rankings.

WELCOME TO THE DOUBLE DIGIT CLUB
Southern Connecticut reached double figures in victories last year for the first time since the 2001-02 season. That year's club finished 14-13, also the last time that the Owls posted a winning record.
