Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) earned his school record 24th career victory as the Owls improved to 9-3 on the year.
The Owls scored their first run of the game when
Sam Greenberg (Guilford, Conn.) reached base on an error and went to third on a passed ball. Greenberg scored on an error by the third basemen on a ball hit by
Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.).
Southern Connecticut scored again when Pete Testa (Orange, Conn.) reached base on a fielders' choice with two outs and later scored on
T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) single up the middle. The Owls scored their final run when Greenberg laid down a successful suicide squeeze that scored Shea from third.
Zbin scattered three hits, walked two and struck out 12 in eight innings of work.
Steve Landell (Higganum, Conn.) worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to record the save.
Shea had two hits, a RBI and a run scored.
T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) and
Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) also collected two hits apiece. Geffert's first hit gave him 200 hits for his career.
The Owls play a doubleheader tomorrow against Mercy College in Fort Pierce, Fla. Game one is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
