No. 7/14 Nationally Ranked Baseball Drop Game At Barry University, 6-4

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The No. 7/14 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team lose to Barry University today, 6-4. The Buccaneers jumped out first in the second inning with a RBI double by the designated hitter. The Owls fired right back in the top half of the third inning when Peter Testa (Orange, Conn.) started off the inning with an infield hit, then later scored on a wild pitch. Southern Connecticut had an opportunity to score more runs with the bases loaded and two outs, but Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.) struck out looking to end the inning. Barry took the lead back, scoring one run in the bottom half of the third. SCSU took the lead in the seventh inning with a double by Brandon Docimo (Stamford, Conn.) with runners on the corner that tied the game. Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) was intentionally walked to load the bases and the go-ahead run scored on a wild pitch after the walk. The Buccaneers tied the game back up in the bottom half of the inning with a leadoff homer by the centerfielder. Barry reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning with a pinch-hit three-run homerun and ended up winning them the game. The Owls could not answer in the top ninth.

Rocco Cundari (Norwalk, Conn.) started for the Owls and received a no-decision. Cundari gave up three runs, on seven hits and struck out four in seven innings of work. Cole Bryant (Newington, Conn.) came in, in the bottom of the eighth inning and was tabbed with the loss. Bryant went 2/3 of an inning and gave up 3 runs on three hits. Pat Egan (Aberdeen, N.J.) relieved Bryant in the eighth and went 1/3 of an inning with one strikeout.

T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) led the Owls with two hits. Kiernan also added a run scored. Docimo, Geffert, Peter Testa (Orange, Conn.), and T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) all collected one hit a piece.

The Owls move to 14-5 on the season. They will be back in action Saturday, March 24th when they return home to host St. Michael's College for a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to start at noon.
