No. 21 Nationally Ranked Baseball Defeats Adelphi in Extras, 4-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Bryan Dorsey's (Cheshire, Conn.) single in the eleventh helped the No. 21 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeat Adelphi University, 4-3. Dorsey's scored T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) who was on second with two outs. The Owls threatened in the second inning with the bases loaded and no outs but couldn't manufacture a run. SCSU went down with a grounded to the first basemen that went home, followed by two strikeouts to get out of the inning. SCSU tried again in the third inning with a runner on second and one out but the Panthers escaped with a flied out to second and a ground out to first. Southern Connecticut got one over in the fifth with a wild pitch that scored Sam Greenberg (Guilford, Conn.) from third base with two outs in the inning. The Panthers got the run back in the top half of the sixth with an RBI double by the first basemen. The Owls came back in the bottom half with two runs with an RBI double by Peter Testa (Orange, Conn.) and a broken bat base hit by Greenberg. Adelphi tied the game up in the top of the eighth with a two-run homerun to right by the center fielder. SCSU had an opportunity in the ninth with the bases loaded and two outs but the Panthers got out of the inning with a strikeout.




Rocco Cundari (Norwalk, Conn.) started for the Owls and was credited with a no decision. Cundari allowed one run, on six hits and fanned two batters through six and 1/3 innings pitched. Pat Egan (Aberdeen, N.J.) came in for relief of Cundari in the seventh and threw 2 and 2/3 innings. Egan allowed two runs, on one hit and struck out one batter. A.J. Turnier came in after Egan in the tenth and picked up the win. Turnier gave up one hit over two innings of work.




Dorsey, Testa and Kiernan each lead the ball club with two hits apiece. Testa and Dorsey each added an RBI as well. Greenberg came up with a hit, a RBI and a run scored in the win.




The Owls move to 27-12 on the season and 14-7 in Northeast-10 Conference action. They will be back in tomorrow, when they host Le Moyne College. First pitch is scheduled for 11:15 a.m.
