NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball team scored three runs in the second inning and held on from there to edge Molloy College, 3-2, in a NCAA East Super Regional contest on Saturday afternoon. The Owls' win forces a winner-take-all contest at 3:30 p.m. today for a berth in the College World Series.
SCSU improves to 41-11 on the year with the win, while Molloy is now 47-12.
Jessica Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) started the second inning with a double. She moved to third on a single by
Stacy Pouliot (Mystic, Conn.) and scored on a double by
Julie Muscarella (Suffield, Conn.).
Brittany Bucko (Wallington, N.J.) plated Pouliot with a sacrifice fly and Muscarella later scored on a wild pitch.
Molloy scored twice in the fifth, but could get no closer.
Jayme Larson (Aurora, Colo.) improved to 24-3 with a complete-game four-hitter. She struck out six in the win.
