LODI, N.J. - Freshmen Maria Weselyj (Malborough, Conn.) and Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) continued to thrive as they lead the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team (2-1) to its second win of the season, 85-69 over Felician.

The Owls were down 12-2 early on, but came back and went on a 15-0 run that made the score 17-12. Que Lyles helped Felician come back to tie it up at 18 by making a couple of free throws. This was before the Owls would go on a 10-0 run. The Falcons tried to cut the deficit down and take the lead several times but time wasn't on their side, as the Owls led 46-31 at the break.

A slight shooting drought  from the Owls in the opening minutes of the second half was broken up by a jump shot from junior gaurd Sydni Lester (Teaneck, N.J.) with 17:50 remaining. This was followed by Weselyj's third three of the game assisted by Keshia Primo (Mississauga, Ontario), that made the score 53-35.

The closest Felician got was when they brought it to within seven points with eight minutes to go. A second half surge from Weselyj and McLaughlin would seal the deal for the Owls as they would go on to win by a final score of 85-69.

The Owls shot 41% from the field and were 7-for-14 from three point range. Turnovers were key in this game as Felician had 35 opposed to Southern's 22.

Weselyj led all scorers with 19 points in 35 minutes of play. McLaughlin was one rebound away from a double-double, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds. Junior forward Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.) chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds along with 11 points from Primo.

The Owls will be back on the court to take on Adelphi at home on Nov. 20, tip-off will be at 5:30 p.m.
