THE WEEK AHEAD
The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team will travel to Fort Pierce, Fla. this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders against Post on Friday and Mercy on Saturday. The Owls will then face Merrimack on Monday for a Northeast-10 Conference game at 12 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Owls took three of four games last weekend from LIU Post. Southern Connecticut swept a doubleheader on Saturday, defeating the Pioneers 5-4 and 13-1. The Owls would fall in the first game on Sunday 8-3, but bounced back with a 3-2 win in the nightcap.
WALK OFF WINNER FOR T.J. SHEA
In the first game against LIU Post on Saturday, T.J. Shea lined the game-winning hit up the middle in the bottom of the ninth inning, driving in Nick Baviello for 5-4 win.
CUNDARI TOSSES GEM
Rocco Cundari threw seven shutout innings for the Owls in a 13-1 win over LIU Post in the second game on Saturday. Cundari only allowed three hits and struck out nine Pioneers on his way to his second win of the season.
BROCHU TAKES NO-HITTER INTO THE SEVENTH
Freshman Austin Brochu tossed six no-hit innings for Southern in Sunday's 3-2 win over LIU Post. Brochu would eventually give up back-to-back hits in the seventh to break up the no-hitter.
ROULEAU SHINES AGAINST LIU POST
Senior A.J. Rouleau finished the four games against LIU Post batting .389 with seven hits, three RBI and three runs scored. Rouleau leads the team in batting for the year with a .357 average.
BROCHU, CUNDARI, ROULEAU RECOGNIZED BY NORTHEAST-10
Austin Brochu was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for his pitching efforts against LIU Post on Sunday. Rocco Cundari and A.J. Rouleau were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for their performances over the weekend.
OWLS SWEEP MOLLOY TO OPEN SEASON
Southern Connecticut opened the 2013 season sweeping a doubleheader with of Molloy, 2-0, 7-1, on Feb. 16 in Morehead City, N.C.
• Ryan Yerina tossed seven shutout innings in his 2013 debut, only giving up three hits and striking out six.
• T.J. Shea went 2-for-4 with a RBI single in the top of the fourth inning.
• In game two, Burns, Shea and Nick Baviello all had RBI to help the Owls to a 7-1 victory.
• Rocco Cundari pitched a complete game (7 inn.) to get the game two win.
YERINA NAMED NORTHEAST-10 POTW
Senior Ryan Yerina was named the Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week for his outing against Molloy in the 2013 opener. Yerina struck out six batters over seven scoreless innings to pick up the win for the Owls.

So. Connecticut was ranked No. 3 in the D2baseballnews.com regional rankings, as of March 4, 2013.

The Owls are No. 6 in the NCBWA regional rankings as of March 4.

The Owls lead the all-time series against Post by a 16-2 margin.
LAST TIME AGAINST POST
The Owls and Eagles met back on April 4, 2012 when Southern got the victory, 24-7.
• Bryan Dorsey tallied six RBI on the day for the Owls.
• Ryan Geffert, Peter Testa and Greg Pacelli all homered in the win.

The Owls lead the all-time series against Mercy by an 11-4 margin.
LAST TIME AGAINST MERCY
The Owls and Mavericks met last year in a doubleheader on March 15 where the Owls won 2-1, 1-0.
• Sam Greenberg and Kyle Cummings both had RBI doubles in the first game for the Owls.
• Ryan Yerina pitched a complete game shutout in the game two win.

The Owls lead the all-time series against Merrimack by a 28-14 margin.

The Owls defeated Merrimack last season,8-6, in 11 innings on March 18 in Boca Raton, Fla.
• Kyle Cummings and T.K. Kiernan would pick up RBI in the top of the 11th inning.
• A.J. Turnier would shut the door in the bottom of the 11th to pick up the save.
A LOOK BACK AT LAST YEAR
The Owls closed the 2012 season with a final overall mark of 31-17. SCSU was ranked as high as No. 3 in the national polls during the course of the season. The squad also qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament during the season.
IN THE PRESEASON REGIONAL POLLS
The Owls were selected fourth in the preseason regional poll by D2baseballnews.com and No. 8 in the NCBWA preseason regional poll.
IN THE NE-10 PRESEASON POLL
The Owls were selected No. 2 in the Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division preseason poll, as voted on by the league's coaches.
WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome 10 newcomers to the squad for the 2013 season - Jake Lieberman, Jake Paul, Joe Uccello, Alex Wichmann, Gary Flowers, Jake DeRosa, Sal Armao, Austin Brochu, Collin Dickinson and Mike Yerina.
THE CAPTAINS
Redshirt senior Ryan Yerina and senior Michael Cleary will serve as team captains for the Owls this spring.
OWLS RAKE IN YEAR END HONORS
Eight members of the team were recognized with Northeast-10 All-Conference honors in 2012. Junior Michael Cleary and sophomore A.J Turnier were selected to the Second-Team. Seniors Ryan Geffert, Brian Dorsey, Kyle Cummings and Chris Zbin were all Third-Team honorees. Freshmen Pat Egan and Cole Bryant were named to the All-Rookie Team.
IN THE NEW ENGLAND POLL
The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team concluded the 2012 regular season ranked No. 4 in the final New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association poll.
OWLS FINISH AMONG NCAA STAT LEADERS
In 2012, Chris Zbin ranked No. 4 nationally in strikeouts per nine innings. T.K. Kiernan was No. 5 in sacrifice bunts/game and No. 6 in total sacrifice bunts. Michael Cleary finished No. 8 in triples and No. 12 in triples/game, while Ryan Geffert was No. 22 in both home runs and home runs/game.
PAIR NAMED TO ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS
Kyle Cummings and Bryan Dorsey, who completed their senior seasons in 2012, were selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Baseball All-Academic Team and also to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Baseball Team.
ZBIN INKS DEAL WITH WINNIPEG GOLDEYES
Chris Zbin signed a professional contract with the Winnipeg Goldeyes last June at the conclusion of his collegiate career with the Owls.
SHEA SELECTED AS BUTTERFIELD AWARD RECIPIENT
Southern Connecticut State University head baseball coach Tim Shea was selected as the recipient of the 2012 Jack Butterfield Award from the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association. He was formally presented with the award on June 4 in Lowell, Mass. at the annual NEIBA All-Star Game.
CUMMINGS, GEFFERT TABBED WITH REGIONAL 'GOLD GLOVE' HONOR
Seniors Kyle Cummings and Ryan Geffert were recognized for their defensive efforts with year-end Rawlings East Region Gold Glove accolades in 2012.
OWLS WIN 30 GAMES AGAIN UNDER SHEA
SCSU won 30 games last year marking the seventh time during head coach Tim Shea's tenure that the Owls have reached that mark.
RECORD BREAKING SEASON FOR GEFFERT
Ryan Geffert broke eight all-time records last year for the Owls. He is now No. 1 on the list in games played (198), at bats (748), hits (245), doubles (60), homeruns (40), RBI (193), walks (132) and putouts (1567).
ZBIN BREAKS THREE PITCHING RECORDS
Chris Zbin broke three all-time records a year ago. Zbin is now No. 1 on the list in wins with 27, innings pitched with 297.1 and strikeouts with 337.
