Owls Split With Post, 2-0, 3-1

Ryan Yerina tossed a complete game shutout in the game one win over Post.
FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) tossed seven shutout innings to lift the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team over Post, 2-0, in game one of two Friday morning in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Yerina threw his first complete game of the year and was able to pick up his second win on the season. He struck out five, gave up two hits, while only walking one.

The Owls would strike in the third inning after Matt Burns (Cheshire, Conn.) would reach on an error. He would then steal second and come all the way around to score after Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) grounded into a fielder's choice.

Southern would pick up another run in the sixth on a bases loaded walk. With one on and one out, A.J. Rouleau (Westborough, Mass.) would reach on a single and after a fielder's choice and walk to T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) the bases would be loaded for Brandon Docimo (Stamford, Conn.). Docimo would earn a walk and pick up an RBI to give the Owls a 2-0 lead.

T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.), Nick Baviello (Orange, Conn.), Shea and Docimo would all have hits in the win.

The Owls would fall in the second game to Post, 3-1.

Southern would get on the board first in the second inning off an error. Kiernan would single and advance all the way to third on a throwing error. Shea would then ground a ball to third that was booted by the Eagles third basemen and Kiernan would score to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

However, Post would answer in the fifth and get on the scoreboard for the first time of the day. Post would score twice in the inning, picking up four hits, including a bloop single with two outs that scored two.

Post would pick up one more in the sixth and go onto win by a final score of 3-1.

Rocco Cundari (Norwalk, Conn.) started for the Owls, tossing five innings, giving up two runs, six hits and struck out three.

Burns had a pair of hits in the loss.

The Owls will play a doubleheader against Mercy College in Fort Pierce, Fla. on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
