NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team fell in a Southwest Division game to Adelphi, 7-3, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers (15-14-1, 4-2 Northeast-10) got on the board in the top of first inning off Owls starting pitcher
Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.). Adelphi would pick up two runs in the first on two hits to give them a 2-0 lead.
Southern Connecticut (15-11-1, 1-5 Northeast-10) would get one back in the bottom of the first after
Michael Cleary (Westborough, Mass.) got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 2-1.
Adelphi would pick up one more in the third and three runs in the fourth to take a comfortable 6-1 advantage.
After the Panthers added one more in the eighth inning, the Owls would get two back in the ninth.
A.J. Rouleau picked up an RBI on an infield single back up the middle, but the Owls would fall to Adelphi, 7-3.
The Owls would tally 11 hits on the day, including a 3-for-4 effort by
T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) and a 3-for-5 day by Rouleau.
Freshman
Austin Brochu (Winsted, Conn.) pitched solid out of the bullpen for the Owls, tossing 5.1 innings, while only allowing one run and striking out two.
The Owls will be back in action Friday against Saint Rose from the Ballpark at SCSU for a 3:30 p.m. start.
