Softball Splits With Adelphi, 2-1 and 9-0 (5 Innings)

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University softball team was able to split in two games with Adelphi, 2-1 and 9-0 (5 innings)  in  Northeast-10 Conference games from Janet L. Ficke Field in Garden City, N.Y.

In game one, Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) pitched a complete game as the Owls defeated Adelphi, 2-1.

The game was scoreless until the sixth inning as the two starting pitchers moved past the opposing lineups.

The Owls were able to put runners on first and third with no outs, and scored two runs in the sixth. Brittany Bucko (Wallington, N.J.) gave the Owls the 1-0 lead with an RBI single down the left field line, scoring Julie Muscarella (Suffield, Conn.). Kaley Marden (Fremont, Calif.) made it 2-0 with an RBI groundout.

Adephi made it 2-1 in the sixth after Victoria Wink had an RBI single, but Cockrill did not allowing more runs.

Cockrill got the win for SCSU going 7.0 innings while allowing one run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

In game two, the Owls were defeated 9-0 in five innings.

Adelphi scored three runs in the first after Wink had a two-run double down the left field line, and Jaclyn Binstock had an RBI.

After scoring two runs in the third to make it 5-0, Adelphi put the game away with four runs in the fourth. Wink had an RBI single and Katie Andrews had a three-run home run in the inning.

Cockrill got the loss for SCSU going 1.0 inning while allowing three runs on three hits. Yesenia Evaristo (Bethel, Conn.) was in relief and went 2.1 innings while allowing six runs, two earned, on five hits with two walks and one strikeout.
