Wichmann's Four RBI Helps Owls Over Adelphi, 8-4

The Owls defeated Adelphi on the road today, 8-4.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team was able to stop a five game skid on the road at Adelphi with an 8-4 win on Wednesday afternoon.

The Owls would wind up taking one of three games from the Panthers this season, improving to 18-16-1 overall and 4-10 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Adelphi falls to 18-20-1 and 7-7 in conference play.

After being slotted in the leadoff spot for the first time this year, Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) led the game off with a double to left field to get the Owls bats going. Cleary would then find himself on third for A.J. Rouleau (Westborough, Mass.) who would single to left giving the Owls a 1-0 advantage.

The Owls would pick up two more runs in the fourth inning when Alex Wichmann (Granby, Conn.) doubled down the left field line, scoring Brandon Docimo (Stamford, Conn.). Later in the inning, Cleary would line out to center, but drive in T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) and the Owls held a 3-0 lead after four.

Wichmann would then tack on one more for the Owls in the fifth before scoring four more runs in the sixth. Nick Baviello (Orange, Conn.) and Shea would each would pick up a RBI in the sixth and Wichmann once again would add to his total with two more RBI to give the Owls a comfortable 8-0 lead.

The Panthers answered with four of their own in bottom half of the inning, but the Owls would hold tight and go onto win by a final of 8-4.

Junior hurler Rocco Cundari (Norwalk, Conn.) picked up his team leading sixth win of the season. He lasted seven innings for the Owls, striking out five in the effort.

Wichmann had three hits starting in right field for Southern Connecticut and drove in four to lead the Owls. Cleary, Shea and Baviello all had a pair of hits in the win.

The Owls will be back in action Friday when they host AIC from the ballpark at SCSU at 3:30.
