Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University football team dropped a 28-3 decision to LIU-Post on Saturday in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.
The Owls are now 2-7 overall and 2-6 in league action. LIU-Post is 6-3 and 6-2.
Southern Connecticut honored its 11 seniors before the game. Of that group,
Brian Wilcox (Jericho, Vt.) had 13 tackles in the game, while
Zachary Williams (Wolcott, Conn.) had seven tackles and two sacks. Wide receiver
Gary Williams (West Haven, Conn.) had five catches for 70 yards, both team-highs.
The Owls opened the scoring with a 12-play, 54-yard drive that took 6:22 of the first quarter. The drive concluded with a career-long 43-yard field goal from Jeff Groth (Shelton, Conn.) to make it 3-0.
However, LIU-Post came back to score on its next drive for a 7-3 lead. The Pioneers added two more touchdowns in the second quarter to build a 21-3 cushion at the break. The visitors tacked on a third quarter touchdown to extend the lead to 28-3, the eventual final.
SCSU is back in action next Saturday for a road game against Merrimack.
