Baseball Opens Season with Tie Against No. 17 Wilmington

Rocco Cundari took the ball as the Owls opened the 2014 season today.
Box Score SANTALUCES, Fla. - The Southern Connecticut University baseball team opened its 2014 season with a 2-2 tie in six innings against No. 17 Wilmington. The final three innings and the second game of the scheduled doubleheader were washed away.

Rocco Cundari (Norwalk, Conn.) threw all six innings for the Owls.  The senior allowed two runs, both earned, while scattering six hits.

SCSU scored both of its runs in the first inning.  Matt Burns (Cheshire, Conn.) led off with a single, the first of his two hits on the day.  After Nick Baviello (Orange, Conn.) drew a walk, T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) sacrificed the runners over.  Julian Sobin (Ansonia, Conn.) drove home Burns with a base hit.  Joe Breen (Nashua, N.H.) followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Baviello.

T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) and Kyle Holland (Norwich, Conn.) each went 1-for-2 in the deadlock.

SCSU plays Southern New Hampshire tomorrow.
