Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team split a doubleheader at American International. The Owls lost game one, 5-2 to snap a six-game winning streak. SCSU used a late inning rally in the nightcap to pick up a 5-3 win.
In game two, the Owls rallied with two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Joe Breen (Nashua, N.H.) hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to give the visitors the lead. Back-to-back singles from
Nick Baviello (Orange, Conn.) and
T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) added some insurance for Southern Connecticut in the eighth.
Pat Egan (Aberdeen, N.J.) picked up the victory. The left hander struck out 10 batters over 7.2 innings.
Mike Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) had the save.
Baviello, who went a combined 3-for-8 with three runs batted in and three runs scored on the day, homered to highlight the team's performance in the opener.
The Owls, who improved to 13-10-1 on the year with the split, play AIC again tomorrow afternoon.
