Nick Baviello (Orange, Conn.) went a combined 4-for-6 to help the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeat Bridgeport 14-3. The duo at the top of the lineup scored 3 runs and had 4 RBI.
The Owls opened the scoring when
Brandon Docimo (Stamford, Conn.) scored on a
Kyle Holland (Norwich, Conn.) double to right in the second.
Southern Connecticut increased its lead in the third with three runs.
Julian Sobin (Ansonia, Conn.) drove a deep drive to the centerfield fence to plate Baviello with the home team's second run.
T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) added to the lead with a two-run double with two outs.
The Purple Knights cut the lead in half in the fourth when Tim Bickford sent a
Jordan Hamler (Waterford, Conn.) offering over the fence in left.
SCSU got the lead back to four in their half of the inning with a pair of unearned runs.
The Owls increased their advantage with a four-run fifth inning. A Burns double and Baviello single each plated two runs.
The victors continued to add to the lead.
Greg Zullo (Branford, Conn.) had a RBI single during a three-run sixth while
Joe Uccello (Glastonbury, Conn.) singled home Sobin in the seventh.
Bridgeport got a run in the eighth on a double to center by Mike Miniter.
Hamler went seven innings to earn his third victory of the season (3-1). The freshman allowed two runs on four hits and struck out seven.
SCSU, now 17-13-1, hosts Adelphi tomorrow afternoon.
