Julian Sobin (Ansonia, Conn.) went 4-for-5 and
Brandon Docimo (Stamford, Conn.) went 2-for-3 for the home team.
The Owls got on the board first in the second inning when
Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.) doubled down the right field line against Adelphi starter T.J. Santiago. Docimo and
Alex Wichmann (Granby, Conn.) came around the score on the two-base hit by the freshman shortstop.
Southern Connecticut starter
Pat Egan (Aberdeen, N.J.) allowed his first hit to begin the fourth inning and shortly thereafter the bases were loaded with nobody out. The junior worked out of the jam, striking out two and then getting a groundball to third baseman
T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) to keep the goose egg on the scoreboard.
T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) plated Kiernan with the Owls' third run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly. Docimo followed with a single to score Sobin.
Adelphi cut the SCSU lead in half when Richard Mejia hit a two-run double to left center with one out in the eighth.
Mike Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) relieved Egan later in the inning. The sophomore was unable to get out of a two-on, one out jam, as Adelphi added two more runs to tie the Northeast-10 Conference game..
Egan struck out eight over 7.1 innings. The reigning ECAC Co-Pitcher of the Week allowed four runs, three of them earned, on seven hits and walked three.
Yerina earned the victory (3-1) for the Owls, 18-13-1, who play three games at Saint Rose this weekend.
