ALBANY, N.Y. - Tyler Albrecht (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) threw over seven no-hit innings to help the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team complete the sweep of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader, 7-0. The Owls scored five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to defeat the Golden Knights, 17-11, in game one.

Albrecht went the distance, allowing just two hits and striking out 12.

As one would expect when a team scores more than two touchdowns, numerous batters had big days at the plate in the opener. Matt Burns (Cheshire, Conn.) went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI. The Owls' centerfielder scored a season-high four runs. Julian Sobin (Ansonia, Conn.) batted in a career-high four teammates. The Southern Connecticut first baseman went 2-for-5 in game one.

Nick Baviello (Orange, Conn.) (2-for-5) touched home three times and had 2 RBI.  T.K. Kiernan (Wallingford, Conn.) went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.  Brandon Docimo (Stamford, Conn.) had a season-best three hits (3-for4), scored twice to go along with 2 RBI.

The Owls, which had 16 hits in game one, struck for four runs in the first inning. Docimo plated two with a two-out single while Joe Breen (Nashua, N.H.) and Sobin also had RBIs in the frame.

The home team got three runs back in its first at bat when Lukas Nethaway homered to left-center off Owls' starter A.J. Turnier (Waterford, Conn.).

Southern Connecticut scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning.  The runs included a steal of home by Burns and an RBI double by Kiernan.

The visitors added to their lead in the fifth when Burns singled home two runs with two down. Baviello followed with a double to score two more. Sobin closed the five-run, two-out rally with a RBI single through the right side.

Sobin had the big hit of the Owls' five-run sixth, scoring a pair on a two-out double.

Saint Rose scored the final seven runs off Owls' relievers Austin Brochu (Winsted, Conn.) and Will Meade (Orange, Conn.).

Turnier went five innings to pick up the victory (4-2) in game one. The The redshirt-junior allowed four runs, all of them earned, on three hits.

The visitors got on the board first in game two, scoring five runs in the third inning. Baviello doubled with one out to score two followed shortly thereafter by a two-run triple by Breen.

That is all the run support Albrecht would need to garner his fourth win of his final season. Only four Golden Knights reached base on the right-hander, who allowed his first hit with one out in the eighth.

Kyle Holland (Norwich, Conn.) scored the Owls' sixth run on a single by Burns with one down in the fourth.

In the fifth inning, T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) increased the lead to seven when he singled home Docimo.

Shea topped the team with three hits in the second game, while Breen and Baviello led SCSU with 2 RBI.

The Owls, 21-13-1, host New Haven on Tuesday.
