Baseball Sweeps DH at Pace to Win Southwest Division Title

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team swept a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with Pace. The Owls defeated Pace 2-0 (11) in game one and 7-1 in the regular season finale. The pair of victories clinched the Southwest Division Championship for SCSU.

Julian Sobin (Ansonia, Conn.) and Joe Breen (Nashua, N.H.) had back-to-back RBI doubles in the eleventh inning to take the opener.

Starters A.J. Turnier (Waterford, Conn.) and Jonathan Chudy each threw over nine scoreless innings. Turnier gave up five hits and struck out nine over 9.1 innings.

Pat Egan (Aberdeen, N.J.) threw 2.2 hitless innings to earn the win (3-3).

Matt Burns (Cheshire, Conn.) led the visitors with two hits.

In the second game, Pace scored first when James Pjura homered to right off Owls' starter Tyler Albrecht (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) in the fourth.

In the fifth, Southern Connecticut scored a pair of runs on RBI hits by T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) and Kyle Holland (Norwich, Conn.) to take the lead.

The visitors, who scored four insurance runs in the ninth, added to their lead in the sixth when Breen doubled home Sobin.

Tyler Albrecht (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) threw a complete game seven hitter. The right-hander (5-3) struck out six.

The Owls, 24-14-1, will host the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
