Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Behind a career-best 184 yards and two touchdown runs from
Robert Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and two touchdown passes from
Robert Nittolo (Hillsborough, N.J.) to
Devante Jenkins (Carson, Calif.), the Southern Connecticut State University football team defeated Saint Anselm today, 28-14.
The Owls are now 3-5, 3-4 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while St. Anselm is 2-6, 2-5 in league action.
Thomas finished with new career-highs in carries (26), along with yards and touchdowns. Jenkins had nine catches for a career-high 116 yards and two scores, his fourth game this year with multiple touchdown receptions. Nittolo was 14-of-24 for 158 yards, while
Brandon Pelzer (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) led the defense with 10 tackles.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Owls went 58 yards in six plays, capped by a one-yard run from Thomas.
Evan Nelson (Madison, Conn.) added the PAT for a 7-0 lead.
The Hawks tied the game on the ensuing drive, but the Owls went back in front before the intermission. This time, Nittolo hit Jenkins on a 33-yard play to close a seven play, 65 yard drive with only 1:18 left in the first half. Nelson's PAT gave the Owls a 14-7 lead at halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Owls built a two-score lead midway through the final frame when Nittolo found Jenkins from 25 yards out for a 21-7 lead following Nelson's PAT.
Thomas would put the game away with an eight-yard touchdown run with 3:38 remaining to push the advantage to 28-7. The Hawks scored a touchdown in the final two minutes for a 28-14 final.
The Owls are back in action next Saturday for a road game at LIU-Post.
