Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Adelphi Panthers overcame a five-run deficit on Wednesday afternoon to top the Southern Connecticut State baseball team 8-5 on the Owls' final day of a six game Florida trip. Seniors Brandon Docimo (Stamford, Conn.) and Nick Baviello (Orange, Conn.) had three hits apiece for SCSU, while senior Joe Breen (Nashua, N.H.) and junior Matt Burns (Cheshire, Conn.) added a pair of hits each. Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.) drove in two runs on a pair of sac flies. Adelphi improves to 2-5 on the season, while the Owls fall to 8-8.
Southern opened up the scoring in the third inning on Joyce's first sac fly of the game. Following a pitching change, Baviello drove home Burns with a RBI double to give the Owls a 2-0 advantage. One inning later,
Alex Wichmann (Granby, Conn.) drew a two-out walk, before Docimo lofted a triple to center field to put Southern up 3-0.
Docimo then doubled to left field in his next at bat in the sixth, and was singled in one later by
Jake Lieberman (Commack, N.Y.). After advancing to third on a Burns single, Lieberman came home on another Joyce sac fly to push the lead to 5-0.
The Panthers then exploded for eight unanswered runs, including five in the sixth inning. Kory Cassara had two homers, a two-run shot in the sixth, and a solo shot in the seventh. The Panthers were also helped by three unearned runs in the sixth inning.
The Owls are scheduled to begin Northeast-10 Conference play this weekend with four games at home against nationally-ranked Northeast Division opponents, Southern New Hampshire and Franklin Pierce.
