Box Score 2 GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State Owls lost a doubleheader to Adelphi Tuesday afternoon, losing game one 6-0 and game two 6-3. This is the second time in five days the Panthers have beaten Southern Connecticut. The Owls are now 14-16 overall and 8-9 in the NE-10, while Adelphi is 21-17 and 11-4.
The Owls managed two hits off Lindsey Mapes in game one and
Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) was knocked from the game after two innings and giving up six runs and five walks.
Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) came in in relief and allowed two hits over four innings.
In game two,
Nicole Buch (Darien, Conn.) went 2-for-3 and knocked in two runs and
Giuliana D'Arcangelo brought in another. But Adelphi, which leads the NE-10 in hits and is third in runs scored, was too much for Southern.
The Owls had a chance at a big inning in the top of the fifth. They were down 1-0 with the bases loaded and one out. Buch hit a sacrifice fly to bring home
Kelly Mitchell (Seymour, Conn.), and D'Arcangelo ended the inning with a groundout.
With the score tied 1-1, Adelphi scored three runs in the bottom half of the fifth and added two more in the sixth. Down 6-1 now, Southern Connecticut had another chance to put a rally together in the top of the seventh.
Buch was up again with runners on first and second, this time with two outs. She singled to right field, scoring
Jaime Conklin (Falls Village, Conn.) and moving Koerner to third, who then scored on a single by D'Arcangelo. But
Leanna Feerick (Maybrook, N.Y.) hit into a fielder's choice, ending the game.
Jessica Van Alphen took the loss, pitching a complete game and giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits, three walks, and six strikeouts.
The Owls will play the Le Moyne Dolphins in two doubleheaders this weekend. Game one is Friday at 3 p.m.
