DeMartino Scores Game Winning Run in the 10th as Owls Defeat Concordia, 1-0

Ethan Joyce was able to cross home for the Owls in the 10th after a single from Mike DeMartino.

MRYTLE BEACH, S.C. - Freshman Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.) scored the game winning run in the 10th innning off a single as the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeated Concordia (N.Y.) by the score of 1-0 as part of the Ripken Experience in South Carolina. With the win the Owls improve to 3-0 on the season while the Clippers fall to 1-2.

Freshman Brandon Rentas (Wallingford, Conn.) started on the mound for the Owls and pitched a seven inning shutout. He gave up two hits while striking out seven and walking three batters. Sophomore Christopher Ramos (Shelton, Conn.) got the win after pitching a total of three innings of relief while giving up a hit and striking out two batters. 

Red-shirt freshman Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) led the Owls at the plate with a 2-of-5 showing at the plate. DeMartino was the only to record a RBI.

It was scoreless game until the 10th inning as DeMartino connected on the fourth pitch to drive in Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.) for the game winning run.

The Owls are back in action today Feb. 28th against Dominican College.
