Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. -
Arianna Medeiros' (Tewksbury, Mass.) grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning propelled Southern Connecticut State University to its second win of the year, 5-1 over Lynn University on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls improve to 2-5 win the victory while the Fighting Knights fall to 9-19-1.
The score was tied at one in the bottom of the sixth when
Victoria Ceballos (Bridgeport, Conn.) started the one-out rally with a single down the right field line.
Brooke Franco (Middletown, Conn.) reached on a single to the shortstop and
Leanna Feerick (Maybrook, N.Y.) walked to load the bases. Medeiros then stepped up to the plate and smacked the Owls' second home run of the year into left-center field. The junior left fielder went 4-for-4 on the day including a double in the fifth inning.
Lynn started off the scoring in the third inning. Victoria Rios worked a leadoff walk and eventually came around to score on a Leanne Wright single. Following that one out score, Owls' pitcher
Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) would go on to give up just two hits in the final four innings. She would finish the game allowing six hits and one earned run and striking out 11.
Southern Connecticut would get that run back in the bottom of the fourth.
Giuliana D'Arcangelo (Brookfield, Conn.) hit a leadoff single and advanced to third on a series of sacrifices. Ceballos brought her home with a single up the middle. The sophomore first baseman went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Franco followed ceballos and walked, but Feerick grounded out to stop the Owl run.
