Box Score 2 NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball team split a pair of games against Holy Family on Thursday. The Tigers took game one 3-1 and the Owls won game two 2-0.
Southern Connecticut now stands at 5-10 while Holy Family is 8-8.
The Owls got both of their runs in game two in the fourth inning.
Heather Jackson (Saunderstown, R.I.) hit a triple that scored
Leanna Feerick (Maybrook, N.Y.) from first base. Jackson came around to score on an
Arianne Tedeschi (Deer Park, N.Y.) single.
That was all the run support
Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) needed. She pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits after pitching all of game one, as well. The senior pitcher gave up just one extra base hit in the second game, a two-out double in the second inning.
Giuliana D'Arcangelo (Brookfield, Conn.) went 2-for-3 in the game with a triple in the fifth inning.
In game one, Southern Connecticut fell behind 3-0 in the fifth inning. The Owls picked up a run in the bottom of the sixth when
Jodi DiSanto (Bristol, Conn.) doubled and came around to score on a
Brooke Franco (Middletown, Conn.) single to left field to make it 3-1. Southern threatened in the bottom of the seventh, as well. It got runners to first and second with one out, but a strikeout and a lineout ended the game. Despite giving up the loss, Cockrill allowed three runs (all unearned) on four hits. She also struck-out six batters.
Southern Connecticut returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Saint Rose in a doubleheader starting at 12 and 2 p.m.
