Assumption jumped on top early with a 7-0 lead entering the top of the fourth before Southern Connecticut cut the Greyhounds' lead to four, 7-3, after scoring three runs off four hits and an error by the hosts. Paul recorded the Owls first RBI of the game as he singled to the right side, allowing a runner to score, before Alex Wichmann (Granby, Conn.) doubled to left center, letting two runners cross home.

In the following half inning, Assumption managed to score another three runs to extend its lead to seven, 10-3. After a scoreless fifth inning, senior Jake DeRosa (North Haven, Conn.) managed to reach first on a fielder choice, advancing runners, and allowed freshman Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) to score, cutting the lead to six, 10-4.

Assumption had another impressive inning as the Greyhounds scored another three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a commanding 15-4 lead. However, Southern Connecticut rallied back to within six, 15-8, after the visitors collected four runs off four hits and an error, but the Owls' rally wasn't enough as Assumption took game one.

GAME 2: Assumption 8 | So. Conn. St. 7

Sophomore Jake Santamaria (Oceanside, N.Y.) picked up the loss for game two as the lefty allowed three hits and two runs while striking out three and walking a batter over 3.1 innings. Similar to game one, Assumption jumped out early with a 2-0 lead after collecting two runs off three hits at the end of the first. Over the next four innings, Assumption tacked on a run in the bottom of the third and three runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend its lead to 6-0. However, in the top of the seventh, all bats were firing on all cylinders as the Owls tallied seven runs off four hits and two Greyhound errors to give the visitors their first lead of the day, 7-6.

Assumption fought back on offense, scoring a run in both the bottom of the seventh and eighth to take a one-run lead, 8-7. In the top of the ninth, Southern Connecticut threatened the Greyhounds with runners on second and first with one out, but the Greyhounds bullpen recorded the final strikeout of the day and ended the visitors' threat.
