SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) became the Southern Connecticut State University softball program's all-time leader in strikeouts on Sunday, breaking the previous record of 494 set by Jayme Larson in 2012. The record came in a 4-2 loss at Le Moyne.

The Owls are now 10-27 overall and 3-16 in the conference, while Le Moyne is 23-13 and 11-7.

Cockrill recorded 24 K's this week, including 12 in a win at Saint Rose on Friday. She picked up three against the Dolphins on Sunday and allowed just six hits in the first five innings before Le Moyne was able to manufacture three runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.

Southern Connecticut kicked off the scoring in the top of the first inning. With the bases loaded, Jodi DiSanto (Bristol, Conn.) launched a double to right-center field scoring Arianna Medeiros (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Brooke Franco (Middletown, Conn.). The Dolphins picked up one run in the third inning to close the gap before taking the lead in the sixth.

Southern Connecticut's next game is Tuesday at Pace at 3:30 p.m.
