HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Each team scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, alternating along the way. Parks' eight-yard scamper opened the scoring and was followed by a PAT from
Jose Conde (West Haven, Conn.). After Bentley tied it, Fowler's one-yard plunge put the Owls back in front, only to have the hosts even it up later in the frame.
- Southern scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to capture a lead that it wouldn't relinquish. Catapano found Fernandes from 22 yards out midway through the frame, and Conde's 36-yard field goal later in the period pushed the lead to 24-14. The Owls led 24-21 at the intermission.
- Each team also posted two third quarter touchdowns. Parks struck first from 13 yards out, followed by a 13-yard run from Catapano later in the quarter. The Owls led 38-35 after 45 minutes.
- The only scoring of the fourth quarter came in the closing minutes. The Owls assembled a remarkable 21-play, 85-yard drive that spanned 13:11. SCSU converted a pair of fourth-down attempts during the drive and finally found the end zone on a two-yard run from Fowler.
- Bentley scored on its next drive, but the Owls' recovered the ensuing onside kick to come away with the win.
