MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team split a doubleheader against a pair of East Coast Conference opponents today in South Carolina. In the opener, Cole Bryant (Newington, Conn.) dominated with his second straight complete game shutout, and allowed just four hits, as the Owls defeated Molloy 17-0. In the nightcap, the Owls dropped a 3-2 decision against LIU-Post.

The Owls' offense also lit it up during today's first contest as they collected 20 hits and scored 17 runs. Kyle Hart (North Branford, Conn.) was 5-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) had four hits and four RBI, while junior Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) collected three hits, three runs and two RBI.

Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) and Griffin Garabedian (Hamden, Conn.) also had two hits apiece for the Owls in game one. The Owls jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the second and then put the game out of reach with six runs in the fifth and eighth in the sixth.

Meanwhile, Bryant continued his stellar work on the hill. He struck out five in his second straight nine-inning complete game shutout.

In game two, a RBI double by Mike Giordano (Norwalk, Conn.) in the second inning gave the Owls a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers pushed across single runs in the third, fourth and eighth to build a 3-1 cushion. SCSU cut the deficit to a run in the bottom of the eighth on another RBI single from Giordano to make it 3-2. The Owls had the tying run in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings but couldn't push across the tying run.
