FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team used an eight-run eighth inning to surge past Assumption, 10-3, earlier today.

Quantique White (New London, Conn.) came into the game in the top of the seventh inning allowing only three hits and one unearned run to secure the Owls win in their first outing in the Sunshine state.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern Connecticut opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning after a
Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) RBI single drove in
Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) who doubled in his first at bat.

The score was halted at 1-0 until the top of the fifth when Assumption scored to tie the game off a sacrifice fly to right field. They scored again in the top of the sixth inning off a two-out walk to take the lead over, 2-1.

Southern Connecticut came back in the bottom half of the sixth inning tying the game 2-2, as
Greg Zullo (Branford, Conn.) knocked in Palmer with an RBI single. Assumption regained the lead, 3-2, off of another sacrifice fly to center field and scoring on the tag up.

The Owls had an explosive bounce back inning scoring eight runs off of six hits in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a commanding 10-3 lead. White was able to hold off Assumption in the top of the ninth to earn the win.
