TEAM RECORDS: SCSU (19-8-1, NE10 7-1) | Le Moyne (21-10, NE10 9-3)
GAME ONE
Cole Bryant (Newington, Conn.) shined on the mound as he pitched a complete game, where he allowed just five hits, and one run, while he struck out three of thirty-five batters faced for his sixth win of the season.
WHAT TRANSPIRED
It was a slow start for both teams in game one, as it was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Dolphins scored one off of a solo homerun.
That run was the last Le Moyne would score of the game as the Owls came back with five unanswered runs.
Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) hit a solo homerun to right field to tie the game at one apiece in the sixth inning.
Griffin Garabedian (Hamden, Conn.) would single through the right side in the seventh inning to score the eventual game-winning run, 2-1. SCSU would score one more run off of a wild pitch to take a 3-1 lead going into the eighth inning.
After
Kyle Hart (North Branford, Conn.) reached on a fielding error,
Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.) singled and moved Hart to second. With runners on first and second,
Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) bunted and made it to first off of another Dolphins error. With bases loaded,
Ryan Kaplan (Fishkill, N.Y.) earned first on a base on balls, which scored Hart, 4-1. Garabedian hit a sacrifice fly to center, and DeMartino scored on the tag up, 5-1.
Bryant's tenacious pitching held Le Moyne off of the score sheet for the rest of the game giving the Owls a 5-1 win.
GAME TWO
Criscuolo led the charge in game two for the Owls going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, one stolen base, and one run scored.
Brendan Ebert (Berlin, Conn.) earned his third win of the season with 8.1 IP and seven strikeouts.
Quantique White (New London, Conn.) also earned his third save of the year off of the Owls 5-3 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SCSU jumped on the score sheet early in the game when Criscuolo hit a two-run homerun to right center field, 2-0.
In the second inning, DeMartino singled up the middle and advanced to second on a throwing error. Then, DeMartino advanced to third off of a sac bunt, and he scored off of Kaplan bunt, 3-0 Owls.
The third inning started with
Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) singling up the middle and advancing to second on a fielding error. Criscuolo singled, advancing Lamberti to third. With
Greg Zullo (Branford, Conn.) at the plate and runners on the corners, both Lamberti and Criscuolo successfully stole their respective bases, 4-0 SCSU.
In the fifth inning,
Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) reached on a fielder's choice, and Criscuolo singled up the middle putting runners on first and second. After both runners advanced on a wild pitch, Zullo reached on an error and Palmer scored, 5-0.
Ebert's golden arm retired the side in each of the next two innings holding the Dolphins from scoring and keeping the Owls lead in tact.
Le Moyne would attempt a comeback in the ninth inning, scoring three runs and coming within two, but White would shut them down and secure the Owls second victory of the day.
