Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. -  The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeated NE10 cross town rival the University of New Haven today, 6-4.

TEAM RECORDS: So. Connecticut (20-8-1, NE10 8-1) | UNH (15-8, NE10 7-6)

Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) led the charge for the Owls on the defensive front, while also contributing to the offensive push. He went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base. He has now reclaimed first on the NE10 leader board in stolen bases with 16. Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) and Kyle Hart (North Branford, Conn.) also contributed to the Owls offensive push. Lamberti went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Hart went 2-for3 with one RBI and two stolen bases.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lamberti hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to put the Owls on the board. Hart fouled down the left field line, when Lamberti tagged up on the play and scored, 2-0. The second inning saw the Chargers score off of an RBI single, 2-1.

The next two half innings were 3 up, 3 down for both teams. It wasn't until the bottom of the third when Palmer laid down a bunt beating out the play for a single where the Owls began to get hot. Lamberti singled and Palmer advanced to third on a throwing error. After Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) hit a sacrifice fly to center, Palmer tagged up and scored, 3-1. Greg Zullo (Branford, Conn.) then singled advancing to second on the throw, while Lamberti scored, 4-1. Hart doubled in the next at bat moving Zullo to third. Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.) reached first on a fielder's choice, which scored Zullo on the play and advanced Hart to third. Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) laid down a sacrifice bunt scoring Hart and ending the Owls surge.

Scoreless through the previous two innings for both teams, the Chargers attempted a comeback, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning, 6-3 Owls. They would score one again in the top of the seventh, but the Owls defense played tight allowing just one hit over the next seven UNH at bats.

Nate Carney (Bristol, Conn.) earned his fourth win of the year after allowing eight hits in six innings pitched. Quantique White (New London, Conn.) tallied his fourth save of the year after entering the game in the ninth inning and retiring all three batters he faced.

ON DECK: The Owls will travel to LIU Post on Friday, April 21 for a single game at 3:30 p.m. before returning home for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 22 against the Pioneers. Those games are set for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
