NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team swept a pair of tilts against American International College, 8-2 and 13-2.

Ryan Kaplan (Fishkill, N.Y.) had a spectacular offensive day as he batted .500 with two RBI and three runs scored in today's doubleheader.
GAME ONE
Along with solid offense from Kaplan (2-for-4, one RBI, one run),
Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) contributed to the Owls fiery play going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while
Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) went 2-for-4 and scored one run to lead SCSU over AIC 8-2.
The Owls got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning as
Griffin Garabedian (Hamden, Conn.) singled to score the first run, 1-0. Criscuolo then hit an RBI single through the right side scoring two runs to increasing the Owls lead to three.
The next two innings went scoreless for both teams until AIC tallied two runs in the top of the fifth off of two hits putting them within one of the Owls, 3-2.
SCSU struck back in bottom of the inning as
Kyle Hart (North Branford, Conn.) scored on the tag up, 4-2 Owls. Kaplan then singled through the right side to score one more to put them up 5-2.
Two scoreless innings later, in the bottom of the eighth the Owls rallied and scored three more runs.
Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) hit a double to left field, which scored Palmer from first base.
Greg Zullo (Branford, Conn.) singled up the middle scoring Criscuolo, 7-2. Closing out the Owls rally,
Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.) hit an RBI single through the right side to score to secure the Owls victory at 8-2.
Griffin Bremer pitched five innings allowing just four hits and two runs to earn his fifth win of the season.
Austin Darrow entered the game in the sixth inning and allowed just two hits in 12 batters faced to earn his first save of the year in the Owls win in game one over AIC.
GAME TWO
Griffin Garabedian led the charge for the Owls in game two as he went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Kaplan continued his reign today going 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
SCSU came out of the gates hot in game two, to continuing their offensive tear. In the first inning, Palmer scored on a throwing error to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.
The Owls scored again in the second after Lamberti singled to score Garabedian, 2-0.
After DeMartino doubled, Kaplan smacked a double which scored DeMartino to give the Owls a 3-0 lead. Garabedian had an RBI single to increase their lead to four.
AIC attempted to power back in the fifth scoring two runs off of two hits, but they were shut down by the Owls defense.
SCSU countered back in the bottom half of the inning, in which they scored three runs. Right field became the sweet spot for the Owls as Hart doubled to right center; DeMartino then blasted a triple to right center field, 5-2. DeMartino scored on the tag up off of a sacrifice fly. Kaplan crushed a triple to right increasing their lead to four. Kaplan then scored off of a sacrifice bunt to put the Owls up 7-2.
Action was rekindled in the bottom of the seventh as Garabedian singled to begin an explosive inning. Palmer doubled scoring one run, and Lamberti singled up the middle to score two more runs, 10-2 Owls. Criscuolo hit a single to left advancing Lamberti.
Greg Zullo (Branford, Conn.) hit an RBI double to right scoring two runs putting the game away, 12-2.
SCSU scored one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning to finish the Owls scoring frenzy and securing their 24
th victory of the season.
Cole Bryant brought the heat in game two, where he picked up his ninth win of the year after pitching 6 innings, where he allowed five hits and two runs in 26 batters faced.
ON DECK
The Owls return to the diamond tomorrow as they face off against the Yellow Jackets to close out the weekend. The game is set for 1 p.m. at the Ballpark at Southern.
