HOW IT HAPPENED
New Haven jumped on the scoreboard right from the gecko scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead, 2-0. The Chargers held the Owls off the scoreboard for the next four innings until the floodgates opened in the top of the fifth inning.
The bases were loaded when Garabedian stepped to the plate, hitting an RBI single to right field to drive in two runs and tie the game, 2-2.
Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) reached first base on an error, which scored one run and advanced Garabedian to third.
Lamberti got on base with a single over the second baseman, scoring Garabedian and advancing Palmer to third, which increased the Owls lead, 4-2. With runners on the corners, Lamberti stole second base giving Palmer the green light to steal home and score the eventual game-winning running, 5-2.
New Haven scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and they added a solo homerun in the sixth inning to come within one, 5-4.
The Chargers efforts to rally back were stopped as
Quantique White (New London, Conn.) came in the game in relief in the bottom of the sixth inning to shut them out. He allowed only two hits with three strike outs earning his first save of the season.
