HOW IT HAPPENED
The Owls jumped out early in the first inning to score three quick runs. Leadoff batter
Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) singled to second base. Teammate
Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) singled through the left side to advance Palmer.
Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) reached on a fielder's choice advancing Lamberti to second, while Palmer advanced to third on an error. With the bases loaded, Greg Zullo (Branford, Conn.) walked to score the first run of the game.
Kyle Hart (North Branford, Conn.) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Criscuolo and advancing Lamberti to third, 2-0. With runners on the corners Zullo was caught in a pickle allowing Lamberti to score from third to give the Owls a solid 3-0 lead.
The Spartans responded with one run in the second inning, 3-1. Then in the fourth inning the Spartans tied it up at three off two homers in the top of the order. The Spartans would hold the Owls offense at three, and pull away in the sixth inning to score four runs and claim a 7-3 lead going into the seventh. The Spartans defense would hold off the Owls offense to keep them at three runs all game and give them the 8-3 decision.
UP NEXT: The Owls will face Dominican College at 11 a.m. on Friday.
