NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball squad split a pair of decisions today at the ballpark against Pace, losing game one 8-5 and winning game two 8-2 on senior day. With the win over the Setters in game two, the Owls secured the NE10 Southwest Division title.

Tyler Criscuolo went 5-for 8 on the day with three RBI and one run scored, while
Griffin Garabedian went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored in the Owls two tilts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
Pace took an early lead as they scored five runs in the second inning, 5-0. The Setters added another run in the third, before SCSU added two in the bottom half of the inning, 6-2.
The fourth inning saw Pace tally two more runs to increase their lead, 8-2. One inning later, SCSU added two more runs. First off of a
Nolan Cloutier (Wallingford, Conn.) double down the right field line, where he scored Garabedian. Then,
Kyle Hart (North Branford, Conn.) singled to left field, where he scored Cloutier, 8-4 Pace.
The Owls added one more run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but fell to Pace, 8-5.
GAME TWO
The Owls bounced back in game two. In the first inning, they scored a run after Hart doubled to right field, where he scored Criscuolo, 1-0. SCSU scored again in the bottom of the second inning after Garabedian hit an RBI triple to left center field, 2-0.
SCSU tallied two more runs in the bottom of the third inning after
Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) scored on a fielder's choice and then
Mike DeMartino hit an RBI double to right center, which gave the Owls a 4-0 lead.
The bottom of the fourth inning saw the Owls run away with the lead. They scored two more runs after Criscuolo hit an RBI single up the middle and Hart hit a sacrifice fly to left, where
Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) scored on the tag up, 6-0.
In the fifth, the Owls tallied one more run, which put their lead at 7-0. Pace jumped on the board in the seventh, where they scored two runs off of two hits, 7-2 Owls.
The Owls added one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Criscuolo singled through the right side, which scored Palmer and put the game away, 8-2.

The Owls return to the diamond on Tuesday as they host Pace again for the first round of the NE10 tournament at 3:30 p.m.
