NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University football team dropped a 55-22 decision to Gannon in its 2017 season opener at Jess Dow Field on Saturday.

FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN: Gannon jumped out to a 20-0 lead late in the first quarter before the Owls put together a 14-play, 75-yard scoring drive. That series culminated when Catapano hit
Thomas Lasaracina (Colchester, Conn.) for a 13-yard touchdown pass. It was Lasaracina's first reception as an Owl.
Jose Conde (West Haven, Conn.) added the PAT to cut the deficit to 20-7.
After a Gannon score made it 27-7, the Owls added a second quarter score on a 14-yard pass from Catapano to Fernandes. SCSU then converted a successful two-point try on a pass from Catapano to
Ryne Griesenauer (Naugatuck, Conn.) to make it 27-15. Gannon added another score before the half to lead 34-15 at the intermission.
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN: Southern Connecticut added one more second half score. Trailing 48-15 in the fourth quarter, Catapano hit Fernandes again, this time from 13 yards out. Conde's PAT made it 48-22 and the Golden Knights added one more late score for a 55-22 final.
