The Southern Connecticut State University football team's 2018 season comes to an end with a trip to North Andover, Mass. for a Northeast 10 Conference match-up at Merrimack College for the regular-season finale.
 
All-Time Against Merrimack
  • SCSU enters the 22nd meeting against Merrimack with a record of 11-10 against the Warriors in 21 games all-time.
  • The Owls have won the last two meetings against the Warriors, including a 28-9 victory at last season's Homecoming game.

  • Quarterback Raymond Catapano amassed 238 total yards and three touchdowns to lead the Southern Connecticut State University football team to a 28-9 win over Merrimack on Homecoming.
  • Catapano finished 6-of-11 for 98 yards through the air and had 17 rushes for 140 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, including a 64-yard scamper.
  • David Spears, Jr. (Springfield, Mass.) totaled four tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and had a 32-yard interception that he took back for a touchdown.
  • Eli Parks (Bristol, Conn.) had 62 yards on 19 carries and added two catches for 27 yards.
  • The Owls jumped out to a 14-0 lead and had a 28-3 lead at the break.
 
The Owls' Last Time Out
  • The Owls took a 24-13 loss to undefeated LIU Post in a NE10 match-up on Senior Day at Jess Dow Field on Nov. 3, 2018.
  • Owls' running back and NE10 leading rusher Eli Parks banged away at the LIU Post defense and rambled to 129 yards on 25 carries with a touchdown.
  • Senior back Vochan Fowler had 11 carries for the Owls, and also scored his fourth touchdown of the season.
  • Quarterback Matthew Sapere was 13-for-28 for 184 yards but was 10-for-14 for 134 yards as the Owls pressured late. Sapere hooked up with five different receivers, including four for multiple catches, led by Julian Chung's five-reception, 64-yard day.
  • Defensively, Rasheed Pierre recorded a team-high 11 tackles, including one for a loss, while Brandon Pelzer (had 10 takedowns for the afternoon. 
  • David Spears, Jr. had three sacks for the day and Miles Thomas had an interception late in the game. Kyle Armour recorded eight tackles for day, and handled the Owls' punt duties – dropping three inside the Engineers' 20-yard line.

Eli Parks
  • Parks has now run for 120+ yards in seven of his nine games played this season including the Owls last four games.
  • For the year, Parks has accumulated a league-leading 1,137 yards as well as 11 rushing touchdowns.
  • Parks' 1,137 yards rank 11th among all NCAA Division II student-athletes and leads the NE10.
  • Parks enters the final game of his career with 2,344 career yards and 23 rushing touchdowns.
  • Parks is currently one of 45 players in the country with 2,000 career rushing yards while his career total ranks 32nd among active players.
  • Parks also leads the conference in scoring (66.0 points) with 7.3 points per game also ranks 53rd nationally.
  • Parks sits first in the NE10 in all-purpose yardage at 135.11 yards per game, which also ranks 30th in NCAA Division II football.
 
Jhaaron Wallace
  • Jhaaron Wallace currently leads SCSU with 72 tackles, which also rank sixth in the NE10.
  • Wallace enters the weekend with 250 career tackles, which rank 5th at SCSU all-time, and are the second-most career tackles among all active players in the NE10, trailing Assumption's Levi Fancher. He ranks 41st overall among all active NCAA Division II student-athletes.
 
David Spears, Jr.
  • Spears' three-sack day gives him seven for the season and four in his last three games.
  • Spears currently ranks tied for third in sacks in the NE10.
  • For the season, Spears has amassed 36 tackles to go along with his seven sacks, and one interception.
  • Heading into the weekend, he has accumulated 86 tackles and 16.5 sacks for his career.
 
Jarred Bennett-Moorer
  • Bennett-Moorer heads into the weekend with a team-leading eight sacks, which are second overall in the conference and 22nd nationally.
  • Bennett-Moorer checks-in with 102 tackles and 12.5 career sacks.
  • Thomas' interception was his second of the season, and first since the Owls' season-opener against Gannon.
 
Team Notes
  • SCSU enters the final weekend of the season ranked 5th in the NE10 in total offense and second in total defense. The Owls, LIU Post and New Haven are the only teams in the NE10 to rank in the top five in both categories.
  • The Owls' 208.7 rushing yards per game lead the NE10 and rank 32nd nationally.
