BOCA RATON, Fla. - Nate Carney (Bristol, Conn.) took a perfect game into the fifth and went seven scoreless innings to notch his third win of the season as the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team claimed a 7-1 victory over Caldwell University.

RECORDS: SCSU (10-5) | CALDWELL (0-9)

KEY PERFORMERS:
- Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) led the Owls with three hits, two RBI and scored one run.
- Mike Giordano (Norwalk, Conn.) went 2-for-4 and added two RBI.
- Griffin Garabedian (Hamden, Conn.) batted 2-for-3, scored two runs and had one walk.
- Carney went seven scoreless innings, striking out seven and allowing only two hits.
- Jake Santamaria (Oceanside, N.Y.) tossed the final two innings to earn his first save of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a pitchers' duel for the better part of the game. The Owls had runners in scoring position in the first, third and fourth innings, but couldn't push a run across. Carney, meanwhile, retired the first 14 in a row before meriting consecutive hits in the fifth - the only two hits he'd allow all day.

- The Owls got on the board in the top of the seventh with two runs. Criscuolo stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Garabedian to score the first run of the game. Later, a wild pitch allowed Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) to score and make it a 2-0 game.

- The Owls cranked up the heat in the ninth as they scored five to extend their lead to seven. Criscuolo hit a RBI singled to score Garabedian. Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.) singled to bring in Lamberti to extend the lead to 4-0. Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) hit a RBI single which scored Criscuolo. Finally Giordano doubled to bring in Joyce and Redahan to take a 7-0 lead.

- Caldwell scored one run in the ninth to make it a 7-1 final.

UP NEXT  
The Owls will face Adelphi in non-conference action, with the game set to start at 11 a.m. on Friday.
